Summer Employment Opportunities
We have two positions available for students to join our team for the summer of 2021. These positions are partially funded by Nova Scotia Student Summer Skills Incentive and you must be entering or returning to school full time in September to be eligible to apply. You must be a permanent Nova Scotia resident or have lived in NS for at least 6 months prior to the start of work.
The anticipated start date is on or before May 10, 2021 and the employment period is 14 weeks. Students will work 35 hours per week and the wage rate is $14.00 per hour. Occasional evening or weekend work will be required. Fluency in English is required and the ability to communicate in Mi’kmaq or French is considered an asset.
Geoscience Support (1 person)
Research and review various geosites within the Geopark.
Assist with the design, implementation, and leading of a guided tour program within the Geopark.
Assist with the delivery of community meetings throughout the Geopark, including any special events.
Undertake assigned committee tasks.
Provide geological interpretation to visitors at the Geopark Welcome Centre in Economy and other centres as assigned.
Skills required include:
Education in the Earth Sciences.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent customer service and comfortable engaging with the public.
Expertise with GIS is considered an asset.
Physically able to walk rough and rocky trails with a backpack in various types of weather.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer skills with the Microsoft suite of software.
GEOfood Program Developer (1 person)
Engage with food producers, restaurants, grocery stores, accommodation providers, fishers, beekeepers, etc. within the Geopark to explain and promote the GEOfood program.
Assist with the development of the Geopark’s GEOfood certification program and register participants.
Research how the GEOfood program can reduce greenhouse gas emissions or otherwise fight climate change through sustainable land use.
Collect statistics on food produced within the Geopark.
Assist with the delivery of community meetings throughout the Geopark, including any special events.
Skills required include:
Education in Business Agriculture.
Good understanding of climate change issues and sustainable land use.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent customer service and comfortable engaging with the public.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer skills with the Microsoft suite of software.
The Cliffs of Fundy Geopark spans the area along the Fundy shore from Lower Truro to Apple River. The work involved with these positions will involve travel throughout this area, so reliable transportation is essential. A generous mileage allowance will be paid when travel is required from your primary workstation. Office workstations will be available at various office locations, depending on assigned tasks.
