Celebrate Mother Earth and Invest in Our Planet!

Cumberland and Colchester Counties – We are approaching an important day in the life of the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark, and in fact of the whole planet. This Friday, April 22nd is Earth Day in Canada and it’s time to celebrate Mother Earth. In fact, the UN General Assembly has designated April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day and acknowledges that it impacts two of the Sustainable Development Goals: #15 Life on Land and #17 Partnerships for the Goals.

Now, more than ever, it is important to acknowledge our position within the dynamic planet where we all live and take action to leave this place a little better than we found it. The theme for Earth Day this year is Invest in our Planet. The world we live in is changing rapidly and we must work together to preserve and protect our environment, our health, our families, and our livelihoods.

GeoparkThe Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark is proud to contribute to Earth Day with acts of restoration, education, awareness, and discovery in our natural environments. We have created an interactive scavenger hunt available for free at the Truro and Parrsboro public libraries. These scavenger hunt pages are offered to interested people of all ages who want to explore the coastal communities in and around the Geopark. You can also download the scavenger hunt from our website under Educational Resources.

The Geopark team is also participating in the Colchester Waste Resource Management Team’s two-week, anti litter, campaign called Colchester Clean which kicks off on Earth Day. You can learn more and register at https://www.colchester.ca/colchester-clean. Later this season, we will be hosting Shoreline Cleanups in three locations in Cumberland County.

Thanks to everyone who is doing their part to Invest in our Planet, whether by cleaning up a roadside or beach, planting trees, creating a bee garden, conserving your use of water and electricity or one of many other projects. We would love to share your stories and photos if you send them to us at admin@fundygeopark.ca.
