Celebrate Mother Earth and Invest in Our Planet

Cumberland and Colchester Counties – We are approaching an important day in the life of the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark, and in fact of the whole planet. This Friday, April 22nd is Earth Day in Canada and it’s time to celebrate Mother Earth. In fact, the UN General Assembly has designated April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day and acknowledges that it impacts two of the Sustainable Development Goals: #15 Life on Land and #17 Partnerships for the Goals.

Now, more than ever, it is important to acknowledge our position within the dynamic planet where we all live and take action to leave this place a little better than we found it. The theme for Earth Day this year is Invest in our Planet. The world we live in is changing rapidly and we must work together to preserve and protect our environment, our health, our families, and our livelihoods.   Read More >>>

Community Spirit Is Alive in the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark

Cumberland and Colchester Counties – The annual Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Spirit Award celebrates and recognizes the civic and community spirit shown by people and their communities. The Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark was thrilled to receive one of this year’s awards on behalf of all the communities within the Geopark.

A special celebration held on Saturday November 13th featured His Honour, the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc and his wife, Her Honour Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc travelling to Parrsboro to present the coveted award. Although the days leading up to the event were cloudy and damp, the gathering of approximately 150 people enjoyed a wonderful sunny and warm afternoon. Residents attended from Bible Hill, Lower Truro, Great Village, Bass River, Economy, Five Islands, Black Rock, Parrsboro, Fox River, Spencer’s Island and points in between to celebrate together and demonstrate their community spirit.   Read More >>>

Changes Front and Centre at the Geopark

Debert, NS – 300 million years ago in the Coal Age, the one world Pangea took shape. 200 million years ago in the Age of Dinosaurs, it began to rip apart, and the modern world was born. The Cliffs of Fundy Geopark is continuing the legacy established by the breaking apart of the super-continent Pangea and has established a new Geopark world.

At our Annual General Meeting last month, Chair Don Fetcher’s term came to an end. Mr. Fletcher has guided the Geopark well since our incorporation in January 2019, through all the development work and into our UNESCO designation in July of this year. He was instrumental in keeping the Board, staff and volunteers all rowing in the same direction and was so proud to host a COVID-style celebration in August 2020. We thank him for his outstanding leadership and determination to get the job done!   Read More >>>

What is a Geopark?

A Geopark is a designation that attracts tourists wishing to explore the connections between geology, local communities, culture, and nature. Geoparks are designed to promote tourism and celebrate a region’s uniqueness, and do not prohibit any land use.
